ABOUT
Students Then Athletics Foundation Fund (S.T.A.F.F.), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization referred to as S.T.A.F.F. was created by Julius Cartwright to continue his son’s legacy of supporting athletes and their parents during their athletic journey. S.T.A.F.F.’s mission is transforming Students Athletes through Training, Education, and Mentoring. Our goal is to build this organization into the National premiere organization for providing support to move scholar athletes forward in their academic careers and their athletic endeavors. While pursuing this goal, Julius Cartwright is continuing to use his more than three decades of real estate and non-profit management experience to support other organizations that have a mission of developing effective evidence-based solutions for challenges facing families.
S.T.A.F.F. serves as the fiscal sponsor for Home Works USA, LLC which was formed in 2016 to develop an intentional community that will support emerging adults who have aged out of foster care as they prepare for adulthood. Barbara J. Sabol, the Managing Member of Home Works USA, LLC also has over 30 years of experience in operations, budget and policy development, personnel supervision, program development, and implementation for major public and private human service organizations. S.T.A.F.F. is fully committed to helping parents and students understand the pure value of academics first and the athletics will take care of itself. The key factor is it gives you choices and more colleges to choose from. The student can pick the college of their choice based on academics, majors, and athletics. As a result of our experiences, we believe S.T.A.F.F will make a difference in some families’ lives.
We are dedicated to this work as a result of the tragic death of Christian F. Cartwright. Christian was the Head Coach of the Freshman Football Team in Euclid, Ohio at the tender age of 25 year old. He was very passionate about aiding the development of the Student Athlete. So as one part of his memory and legacy must happen!!!
Christian F. Cartwright played at Benedictine High School in Cleveland, Ohio his 9th and 10th grade school year, then transferred over to Cleveland Heights High School where in his senior year lead his team as captain and linebacker to undefeated season. The first in the school history and they lost to St. Edwards High School in the playoffs where Christian play his best game of his career with 18 solo tackles in a losing effort.
Christian F. Cartwright graduated and elected to go the University of Dayton as a preferred walk-on, turning down 8 other scholarship at Division 2A, and Division 3 Colleges. It was his vision as a Sports Management Major to do the following:
- Aid students with training and college prep
- Coach High School, Colleges and possibly the Pros one day
- Assist students in maintaining good grades
Mission
The mission of S.T.A.F.F. is to provide educational training, scholarships assistance, mentorship programs, internships, financial literacy, entrepreneurship development, and real estate career programs for young people while utilizing our organizational strengths in financial management and administration to help build the capacity of organizations that create environments where you people flourish and thrive.
Purpose
Based on a study by the NFL, it shows that 80% of all players end up broke, bankrupt and/or divorced after playing in the league. S.T.A.F.F. believes that this is the largest group of athletics that fall short of success in their lives. The NFL has programs to help players, but like most things it generally starts at a young age and at home with parental advice and structured lives after sports preparation. We are open for all athletics because the preparation is the same. THIS is what S.T.A.F.F. is all about.
